Roofing Materials We Install in Louisiana and Texas

JosephMill installs roofing systems using CertainTeed and Atlas materials  two of the most trusted brands in the residential roofing industry. Every material recommendation is based on your roof geometry, local weather exposure, and long-term performance goals.

Why the Materials on Your Roof Matter More Than Most Homeowners Realize

The material on your roof is the first and most critical line of defense between your home and the weather conditions it faces every year. In Louisiana and Texas, where hurricane season, high heat, coastal humidity, and severe hail are regular threats, the quality and suitability of your roofing material directly determines how long your roof performs and how well it protects your home.

A roof installed with inferior or poorly matched materials may look identical to a quality installation on day one. The difference shows up after the first major storm, after three summers of Louisiana heat, or after a hail event hits Corpus Christi. Choosing the right material for your specific home, roof geometry, and local climate is one of the most important decisions in any roofing project.

JosephMill installs only CertainTeed and Atlas materials. Here is why we chose these two brands and what they mean for your roof.

Use this company to get your new roof! Everyone was so very helpful and responsive throughout the entire process, especially Justin and Scott! From start to finish, Scott saw our project through and helped us get insurance to cover our new roof. Scott was very patient with all my questions and concerns, and always found an answer for me if he didn't know it already. Jorge and his crew were amazing as well when it came time to install the new roof. Jorge kept me informed as the day progressed and even went out of his way to fix another issue in my attic that was unrelated to the roof itself, just out of the kindness of his heart! Great company with great employees who treat you like family. You won't regret using them!

Cold Calling everyone in the neighborhood of Magnolia Woods about roofing work. They called my wife's cell (a memphis number) and were asking/looking for me. My wife said it is the wrong number, and they insisted that number was actually my number. Again my wife said NO it is not, and asked how they got her cell number and they again asked for me by name and cited that they know this is my number because they got it off "some list". Desperate company, I would never use. If someone has roofing issues, they will obviously reach out to a roofing company - we do not need to be SPAMMED about it.
Response from the owner 14:59 13 Jun 25
Thanks for your feedback, and I’m sorry for the negative experience you and your wife had. That’s absolutely not the way we want to show up in the community. We train our team to be respectful and professional at all times—especially when reaching out to local homeowners. Based on your note, it sounds like we missed the mark here. We’ll be reviewing this call and tightening up our outreach process immediately. For what it’s worth, we aren’t “spamming”—we’re a local company trying to make people aware of storm damage and insurance benefits they often don’t know about. That said, it should never feel pushy or invasive. If you’d be open to a quick call, I’d like to personally apologize and make it right. Either way, we appreciate your time and take your words seriously.— Chad Elrod, CSO📞 225.400.1009 | 📧 Chad@josephmill.com

CertainTeed Roofing Materials

CertainTeed is one of the oldest and most established roofing material manufacturers in North America. Founded in 1904, CertainTeed has over a century of product development behind its roofing lines, producing asphalt shingles that are consistently recognized for durability, aesthetic range, and performance in demanding climates.

Why We Install CertainTeed

CertainTeed shingles are engineered for performance across a wide range of climate conditions. Their product lines include options with enhanced wind resistance ratings, impact resistance classifications, and algae resistance treatments, all relevant considerations for Louisiana and Texas homeowners dealing with high winds, hail, and humid conditions that promote algae and moss growth.

CertainTeed’s manufacturing standards and quality control processes produce shingles with consistent thickness, granule adhesion, and mat core integrity, characteristics that translate directly into long-term performance on your roof.

CertainTeed Products We Install

  • Architectural asphalt shingles for residential roof replacement
  • Impact-rated shingle options for storm-prone markets
  • Shingle lines suitable for gable, hip, gambrel, mansard, and combination roof styles

CertainTeed in Louisiana and Texas

Louisiana and Texas homeowners benefit specifically from CertainTeed’s wind resistance ratings. Many CertainTeed shingle lines carry wind warranties that align with the high-wind exposure of South Louisiana and the Texas Gulf Coast, which is an important consideration for both homeowner peace of mind and insurance requirements.

Atlas Roofing Materials

Atlas Roofing Corporation is an American manufacturer known for producing high-performance asphalt shingles with a strong emphasis on impact resistance and storm protection. Atlas is a particularly strong fit for the Louisiana and Texas markets given their product development focus on severe weather performance.

Why We Install Atlas

Atlas shingles are engineered with a reinforced mat core and enhanced granule systems designed to withstand the impact and weather cycling that roofs in storm-prone markets face regularly. Their Pinnacle Pristine and StormMaster lines are specifically designed for high-wind and impact-resistant applications, which are directly relevant to the conditions JosephMill customers face in South Louisiana and along the Texas Coast.

Atlas products consistently perform well in independent testing for granule retention, impact resistance, and wind uplift, which are the three performance factors most relevant to residential roofs in our service areas.

Atlas Products We Install

  • Architectural asphalt shingles for residential roof replacement and repair
  • Impact-resistant shingle options for high-wind and hail-prone markets
  • Shingle lines compatible with all residential roof styles we service

Atlas in Louisiana and Texas

Atlas shingles with impact resistance ratings can qualify homeowners in Louisiana and Texas for insurance premium discounts, which is an important practical benefit in markets where storm-related claims are frequent. We discuss this with every customer during the material selection phase of a replacement project.

Types of Roofing Materials We Install

Asphalt Shingle Roofing

Asphalt shingles are the most widely installed residential roofing material in Louisiana and Texas. They offer a strong balance of cost, durability, aesthetic variety, and repairability. We install CertainTeed and Atlas architectural shingles on all residential roof styles, including gable, hip, gambrel, mansard, flat, and combination roofs.

Asphalt shingles are a proven performer in Louisiana and Texas climates when installed correctly, with proper fastening patterns, quality underlayment, sealed valleys, and adequate ventilation. Installation method matters as much as material quality. We follow manufacturer specifications on every installation.

Metal Roofing

Exposed fastener metal roofing offers superior durability and longevity compared to asphalt shingles, particularly in high-heat and high-humidity environments like South Louisiana and the Texas Gulf Coast. Metal roofing handles wind uplift, thermal expansion, and coastal salt air exposure better than most alternative materials.

Metal is a long-term investment with a longer service life than asphalt shingles. We recommend it for homeowners who prioritize long-term performance and reduced maintenance over upfront cost.

Roof Coatings

Roof coatings are applied over an existing roof surface to extend service life, seal minor gaps, reflect heat, and slow weathering. A coating is not a replacement for a roof that has reached the end of its service life, but for roofs that are structurally sound and have years of useful life remaining, a coating can be a cost-effective way to maximize that investment.

We assess your roof’s condition before recommending a coating to ensure it is the right solution rather than a delay of a necessary replacement.

Flat Roof Services Throughout Denham Springs and Livingston Parish

How JosephMill Recommends the Right Material for Your Roof

We do not recommend materials based on what is easiest to install, what generates the highest margin, or what we have the most of in stock. Our material recommendation is based on four factors specific to your home and situation.

Roof Geometry
Your roof style, including gable, hip, gambrel, mansard, flat, or combination, affects which materials are appropriate and how they need to be installed. A flat roof has different material requirements than a steep gable roof. We assess your roof geometry during the inspection and factor it into every material recommendation.

Local Weather Exposure
A home in Denham Springs faces different weather conditions than a home in Corpus Christi. South Louisiana’s storm frequency and inland humidity profile differ from the coastal salt air and hurricane exposure of Nueces County. We recommend materials with the performance characteristics that match your specific location’s conditions.

Long-Term Performance Goals
Some homeowners want the most durable option available regardless of upfront cost. Others need a cost-effective solution that performs well within a specific budget. We explain the performance differences between options clearly so you can make an informed decision aligned with your goals.

Insurance Considerations
In both Louisiana and Texas, certain impact-rated and wind-resistant materials may qualify for insurance premium discounts or satisfy specific policy requirements. We factor this into our material recommendations and explain the potential benefit during your estimate.

Why do you only install CertainTeed and Atlas materials?

We chose CertainTeed and Atlas because their products consistently perform well in the specific conditions our customers face in Louisiana and Texas — high winds, hail, heat, and coastal humidity. Installing materials we trust means we stand behind every roof we put on. We do not install materials we would not put on our own homes.

Both are excellent manufacturers and both perform well in Louisiana and Texas conditions. The right choice depends on your specific situation — roof geometry, budget, desired performance characteristics, and insurance considerations. We walk you through the differences during the estimate so you can make an informed choice rather than just taking our word for it.

Metal roofing offers a longer service life and superior performance in high-heat, high-humidity, and high-wind environments — making it a strong long-term choice for Louisiana and Texas homeowners. Asphalt shingles offer a lower upfront cost and remain a proven, reliable option when installed correctly with quality materials. The right choice depends on your budget, your long-term plans for the home, and your performance priorities.

In many cases yes. Louisiana and Texas insurance carriers frequently offer premium discounts for homes with impact-rated roofing materials. The specific discount depends on your carrier and policy. We recommend discussing this with your insurance provider during the material selection process.

Flat roofs require specific material considerations around drainage, surface coating, and slope management. We assess flat roof conditions individually and recommend the appropriate material system based on the specific structure. Call us to discuss your flat roof situation directly.
