Atlas Roofing

JosephMill installs Atlas roofing systems for residential homeowners across Denham Springs, Louisiana and Corpus Christi, Texas. Built specifically for storm-prone markets, Atlas shingles combine Class 4 impact resistance, wind ratings up to 150 mph, and 3M Scotchgard Protector technology into roofing systems engineered to perform where other shingles fail.

What Is Atlas Roofing and Why Does It Matter for Your Home?

Founded in 1982, Built From the Ground Up as a Storm-Focused Manufacturer

Atlas started with a single plant and a handful of employees manufacturing asphalt shingles and roll roofing in Meridian, Mississippi, in 1982. Unlike CertainTeed, which began in 1904 as a general building products company, Atlas was built specifically around roofing materials from day one.

From a single asphalt shingle manufacturing facility in 1982, Atlas has grown to 36 facilities in North America providing worldwide product distribution. That growth was driven by one consistent focus, producing roofing materials that perform in the harshest weather conditions in the United States.

Atlas Roofing Corporation is not your typical high-profile shingle manufacturer. Instead, they strive to be different, unique, innovative, and most importantly accessible. Atlas roofing products are designed to meet every market segment.

A Privately Held American Company

Atlas is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia and is a privately held organization, meaning its decisions are driven by product performance and customer outcomes rather than quarterly earnings pressure. Atlas has partnerships with some of North America’s most respected companies, allowing them to provide new technologies to various markets. A key example is its partnership with 3M and Scotchgard Protector, which provides homeowners lasting beauty and protection against roof staining and streaking.

That 3M partnership is one of the most significant differentiators in the Atlas product line, and it directly addresses one of the most common roofing problems Louisiana and Texas homeowners face.

Four Decades of Storm-Focused Innovation

While so much has changed in 40 years, one thing remains constant, Atlas Roofing’s dedication to quality and product innovation. As Atlas marks its 40th anniversary, Atlas Vice President of Sales and Marketing Stan Bastek said the commemoration is as much a testament to Atlas Roofing’s products as it is to the hardworking people who manufacture and install them.

For Louisiana and Texas homeowners, this history matters because Atlas has spent four decades refining products specifically designed for high-wind, high-impact, and high-humidity environments, the exact conditions your roof faces every year.

Use this company to get your new roof! Everyone was so very helpful and responsive throughout the entire process, especially Justin and Scott! From start to finish, Scott saw our project through and helped us get insurance to cover our new roof. Scott was very patient with all my questions and concerns, and always found an answer for me if he didn't know it already. Jorge and his crew were amazing as well when it came time to install the new roof. Jorge kept me informed as the day progressed and even went out of his way to fix another issue in my attic that was unrelated to the roof itself, just out of the kindness of his heart! Great company with great employees who treat you like family. You won't regret using them!

Cold Calling everyone in the neighborhood of Magnolia Woods about roofing work. They called my wife's cell (a memphis number) and were asking/looking for me. My wife said it is the wrong number, and they insisted that number was actually my number. Again my wife said NO it is not, and asked how they got her cell number and they again asked for me by name and cited that they know this is my number because they got it off "some list". Desperate company, I would never use. If someone has roofing issues, they will obviously reach out to a roofing company - we do not need to be SPAMMED about it.
Response from the owner 14:59 13 Jun 25
Thanks for your feedback, and I’m sorry for the negative experience you and your wife had. That’s absolutely not the way we want to show up in the community. We train our team to be respectful and professional at all times—especially when reaching out to local homeowners. Based on your note, it sounds like we missed the mark here. We’ll be reviewing this call and tightening up our outreach process immediately. For what it’s worth, we aren’t “spamming”—we’re a local company trying to make people aware of storm damage and insurance benefits they often don’t know about. That said, it should never feel pushy or invasive. If you’d be open to a quick call, I’d like to personally apologize and make it right. Either way, we appreciate your time and take your words seriously.— Chad Elrod, CSO📞 225.400.1009 | 📧 Chad@josephmill.com

Why Atlas Roofing Is Built for Louisiana and Texas Conditions

Atlas is not a general purpose manufacturer that happens to sell in storm-prone markets. Their product engineering is specifically oriented around the weather performance challenges that Louisiana and Texas homeowners face. Here is what that means in practice.

Class 4 Impact Resistance, The Highest Rating Available for Asphalt Shingles

Atlas StormMaster shingles are made with Core4 Polymer Modified Technology featuring Class 4 impact resistance, the highest rating available. This means these shingles can withstand the impact of a 2-inch diameter steel ball dropped from 20 feet without damage.

Pinnacle Impact shingles are manufactured with proprietary polymer-modified asphalt technology that allows them to meet a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest rating for impact resistance in asphalt shingles.

For Denham Springs homeowners in Livingston Parish and Corpus Christi homeowners in Nueces County, where seasonal hail events regularly damage roofs, Class 4 impact resistance is the performance specification your roof needs. A Class 4 rated shingle does not just survive a hail event better than a standard shingle. It survives better in the same way every time, verified by independent testing.

Wind Resistance Up to 150 MPH

StormMaster Shake shingles feature Core4 Technology with a warranty against 150 mph winds, making them one of the most advanced asphalt roof shingles available today.

Pinnacle Pristine shingles carry a warranty that covers damage from winds up to 130 mph, making even the entry-level Atlas architectural shingle line relevant for Louisiana and Texas hurricane and tropical storm exposure.

In markets where major storms can generate sustained winds exceeding 100 mph, and where wind uplift failures are among the most common causes of residential roof damage, this wind resistance specification is a practical performance requirement, not a marketing number.

3M Scotchgard Protector, The Most Effective Algae Resistance Technology Available

3M Scotchgard Protector is an innovative technology that includes copper-containing granules made with a proprietary 3M porous ceramic coating. This allows copper ions to release slowly over time, helping to prevent the black streaks caused by algae.

While many competing shingles claim algae resistance, Atlas shingles use a unique 3M ceramic-coated copper granule technology that offers lasting protection, preventing stains and maintaining the roof’s appearance for years.

This distinction matters for Louisiana and Texas homeowners specifically. Humidity levels across South Louisiana and the Texas Gulf Coast create near-ideal conditions for algae growth on roofing surfaces. Standard algae-resistant granules lose effectiveness over time. The 3M Scotchgard technology uses a time-release copper ion mechanism that maintains its effectiveness over the life of the shingle, not just in the first few years after installation.

Core4 Polymer Modified Technology, Flexibility That Prevents Failure

Core4 Polymer Modified Technology allows Atlas shingles to resist high temperatures without warping or cracking. The polymer-modified technology gives these shingles a level of flexibility that outperforms traditional shingles, allowing them to resist damage from strong winds and heavy impacts.

In Louisiana and Texas, roofs cycle through extreme heat in summer and occasional cold snaps in winter. Traditional shingle asphalt formulations become brittle in cold weather and soft in extreme heat. Polymer modification addresses this by keeping the shingle material flexible across the full range of temperatures your roof experiences, reducing cracking, splitting, and granule loss over the shingle’s service life.

HP42 Technology and FASTAC Sealant, Installation Precision That Holds

Atlas shingles include the modern HP42 system with a double FASTAC sealant line and a Sweet Spot nailing area, which makes them great for long-term durability and appearance.

The double FASTAC sealant line is a specific installation advantage in high-wind markets. Standard shingles use a single sealant line. The double sealant line doubles the adhesive contact between overlapping shingles, reducing wind uplift failure at the sealant points that most commonly cause shingle blow-off during storm events.

Cool Roof Technology, Energy Savings in Louisiana and Texas Heat

Pinnacle Sun shingles are made with 3M Cool Roof Technology, which reflects the sun’s radiant heat away from your roof and helps keep the interior of your home cooler.

For Louisiana and Texas homeowners facing intense summer heat and high cooling costs, a roof surface that reflects heat rather than absorbing it has a direct and measurable impact on monthly energy bills.

Atlas Warranty Coverage, What It Means for Your Home

With the Atlas Lifetime Limited Warranty your investment is protected with the industry’s best warranty available. Atlas Roofing

Here is what that warranty covers in practical terms for Louisiana and Texas homeowners.

Lifetime Limited Warranty on Manufacturing Defects

Atlas’s lifetime limited warranty covers manufacturing defects for the life of the shingle. This is the baseline protection on every Atlas shingle line, including the Pinnacle and StormMaster series.

Wind Damage Warranty

Wind damage warranties vary by product line, from 130 mph on Pinnacle Pristine up to 150 mph on StormMaster Shake. These warranties provide documented protection against wind-driven shingle blow-off at the rated wind speeds, which is directly relevant to hurricane and tropical storm exposure in Louisiana and Texas.

Scotchgard Lifetime Algae Resistance Warranty

The Scotchgard warranty provides lifetime protection against black streaks caused by algae. This is not a standard limited warranty with a degrading coverage period. It is a lifetime commitment from Atlas backed by 3M’s Scotchgard technology, addressing one of the most persistent aesthetic and performance problems in Louisiana and Texas roofing conditions.

Transferable to the Next Homeowner

Atlas’s warranty transfers to the next homeowner when a property is sold, adding documented value to the home and providing buyers with protection on a major structural investment.

Atlas Shingle Lines JosephMill Installs

Atlas offers several residential shingle lines relevant to Louisiana and Texas homeowners. Here is a clear breakdown of each line and who it is best suited for.

StormMaster Shake, Atlas’s Flagship Storm Protection Line

StormMaster Shake features Core4 Technology with Class 4 impact resistance, backed by a warranty against 150 mph winds, enhanced with 3M Scotchgard Protector to prevent black streaks and 3M Smog-Reducing Technology to improve air quality. Atlas Roofing

StormMaster Shake is the appropriate specification for Louisiana and Texas homeowners who want the highest available storm protection in an asphalt shingle. It is the right choice for properties in high-wind zones, properties with a history of hail damage, or homeowners seeking maximum insurance premium savings from an impact-rated specification.

Pinnacle Pristine, Premium Protection With Aesthetic Focus

Pinnacle Pristine architectural shingles feature Class 3 impact resistance protecting your roof from hail and winds up to 130 mph. With a variety of beautiful color options and the power of Scotchgard Protector which prevents ugly black streaks caused by algae your Pinnacle Pristine shingles will provide stunning curb appeal for years to come. Atlas Roofing

Pinnacle Pristine is the right choice for homeowners who want strong storm performance, a wide range of color options, and a more accessible price point than the StormMaster line.

Pinnacle Impact, Class 4 Rating at the Pinnacle Price Point

Pinnacle Impact shingles are manufactured with proprietary polymer-modified asphalt technology that allows them to meet a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating. Choosing Pinnacle Impact architectural shingles means investing in an exceptional roofing system that offers superior hail resistance, smog-reducing technology, and the algae-fighting power of 3M Scotchgard Protector.

Pinnacle Impact gives Louisiana and Texas homeowners the Class 4 impact resistance of the StormMaster line at the Pinnacle price point, making it the most cost-effective path to maximum hail protection for homeowners focused on insurance premium savings.

Pinnacle Sun, Energy Efficiency for High-Heat Markets

Pinnacle Sun shingles feature 3M Cool Roof Technology and Scotchgard Protector, with Class 3 impact resistance and a 130 mph wind limited warranty, allowing them to stand up to harsh elements while maintaining their appearance for years.

Pinnacle Sun is the appropriate specification for Louisiana and Texas homeowners whose primary concern is reducing cooling costs during the intense summer heat season while still maintaining strong storm performance credentials.

How Atlas Impact-Rated Shingles Can Lower Your Insurance Premium in Louisiana and Texas

This is the financial case for choosing an Atlas impact-rated shingle line, and it is one of the most important conversations JosephMill has with every customer considering a roof replacement.

StormMaster Shake shingles carry a Class 4 impact rating, which may help you save on homeowners insurance premiums.

In Louisiana and Texas, many homeowners insurance carriers, and in Nueces County specifically TWIA windstorm policies, offer premium discounts for homes with Class 3 or Class 4 impact-resistant roofing materials. The discount varies by carrier and policy, but in storm-active markets the long-term savings can be significant.

Here is the practical calculation every Louisiana and Texas homeowner should run before choosing between a standard and impact-rated shingle:

The price difference between a standard architectural shingle and a Class 4 impact-rated Atlas shingle on a typical residential roof is a one-time cost. The insurance premium discount, if applicable under your policy, recurs every year for the life of the roof. Over a 20 to 30 year roof lifespan, the cumulative insurance savings frequently exceeds the upfront material cost difference.

We discuss this specifically with every JosephMill customer during the material selection phase of a replacement project. If your carrier offers a discount for Class 3 or Class 4 rated materials, choosing an Atlas impact-rated line may be the most financially sound roofing decision you can make.

Why JosephMill Chose Atlas as One of Our Two Roofing Material Brands

We install Atlas because their product engineering aligns with what Louisiana and Texas homes actually need, not because of a distributor relationship or marketing arrangement. Here is the specific reasoning.

Storm-specific engineering. Atlas was built from the ground up as a storm-focused manufacturer. Their Core4 Polymer Modified Technology, Class 4 impact ratings, and 150 mph wind resistance specifications exist because the company specifically engineered around storm performance, not as add-ons to a general-purpose product line.

The 3M Scotchgard partnership is unique. No other major shingle manufacturer has a comparable algae resistance technology partnership. The 3M ceramic-coated copper granule system is the most effective algae resistance solution available for asphalt shingles, which is directly relevant to Louisiana and Texas humidity conditions where algae growth is a consistent problem.

Class 4 impact resistance verified by independent testing. Atlas’s UL 2218 Class 4 ratings are verified by Underwriters Laboratory, not self-reported. The test protocol is rigorous and specific. A Class 4 rating means the shingle passed a standardized impact test, not that the manufacturer claims it should.

Insurance premium eligibility. Atlas impact-rated shingles are among the most consistently recognized by Louisiana and Texas insurance carriers for premium discount eligibility. This creates a tangible financial benefit for homeowners beyond the performance advantage.

Polymer-modified asphalt for temperature cycling resilience. Louisiana and Texas roofs cycle through extreme heat and cold. Polymer-modified shingle formulations maintain flexibility across this temperature range, reducing the cracking and granule loss that standard asphalt shingles develop over time under these conditions.

When Roof Replacement Is the Correct Choice

Atlas vs. CertainTeed, Which Is Right for Your Home?

JosephMill installs both Atlas and CertainTeed. Here is an honest comparison to help you understand the difference and make an informed choice.

Atlas strengths for Louisiana and Texas:
  • Storm-specific product engineering with Core4 Polymer Modified Technology
  • 3M Scotchgard Protector, the most technologically advanced algae resistance available
  • StormMaster Shake line with a 150 mph wind rating, the highest in the Atlas portfolio
  • Class 4 impact resistance across multiple price points
CertainTeed strengths for Louisiana and Texas:
  • Over 120 years of manufacturing history and institutional backing from Saint-Gobain
  • Landmark series, the most widely installed residential shingle in North America
  • CertaSeal flexible adhesive technology for long-term sealant integrity
  • ENERGY STAR rated Solaris line for maximum energy efficiency

When we typically recommend Atlas: For homeowners whose primary concern is storm protection, hail resistance, insurance premium savings, or algae resistance in high-humidity conditions, Atlas is typically the right specification. The 3M Scotchgard technology and Core4 polymer modification are differentiated advantages in Louisiana and Texas conditions.

When we typically recommend CertainTeed: For homeowners who want the broadest shingle selection, the longest manufacturer track record, or the Solaris energy efficiency line, CertainTeed is typically the right specification. The Landmark series is a proven, cost-effective performer with excellent warranty coverage.

The right choice depends on your specific home, roof geometry, local conditions, and priorities. We discuss both options during every free inspection and explain the performance differences clearly, so you make the decision, not us.

How long has Atlas been making roofing shingles?

Atlas Roofing Corporation was founded in 1982 in Meridian, Mississippi. Over four decades, they have grown from a single manufacturing facility to 36 facilities across North America, building their reputation specifically around storm performance and product innovation.

For maximum storm protection, we recommend the StormMaster Shake line, which offers Class 4 impact resistance and a 150 mph wind warranty. For homeowners seeking strong storm performance at a more accessible price point, the Pinnacle Impact or Pinnacle Pristine lines are excellent options. For homeowners focused on energy efficiency in South Texas or Louisiana summer heat, the Pinnacle Sun line is worth considering. We discuss the right specification for your home during the free inspection.

3M Scotchgard Protector uses copper-containing granules with a proprietary 3M ceramic coating that releases copper ions slowly over time, preventing the algae growth that causes black streaking on roofing surfaces. Louisiana and Texas humidity creates near-ideal conditions for algae growth on roofing materials. Standard algae-resistant granules degrade over time. The 3M ceramic-coated copper technology maintains its effectiveness across the shingle’s full service life, not just in the early years.

Yes, Class 3 and Class 4 impact-rated Atlas shingles frequently qualify homeowners in Louisiana and Texas for insurance premium discounts. In Nueces County specifically, TWIA windstorm policies may offer discounts for impact-rated materials. The specific discount depends on your carrier and policy. We recommend discussing this with your insurance provider during the material selection phase of your project.

Wind resistance varies by product line. Pinnacle Pristine and Pinnacle Sun carry a 130 mph wind warranty. StormMaster Shake carries a 150 mph wind warranty, the highest available in the Atlas residential shingle portfolio. Both ratings are relevant for hurricane and tropical storm exposure in Louisiana and Texas.

StormMaster Shake is Atlas’s flagship storm protection line, featuring Class 4 impact resistance, a 150 mph wind warranty, and Core4 Polymer Modified Technology. The Pinnacle line offers Class 3 impact resistance on Pristine and Sun variants and Class 4 on the Pinnacle Impact, at a lower price point than StormMaster. The right choice depends on your performance priorities and budget. We explain the difference clearly during the free inspection.
