CertainTeed Roofing

JosephMill installs CertainTeed roofing systems for residential homeowners across Denham Springs, Louisiana and Corpus Christi, Texas. With over 120 years of manufacturing history, Class 4 impact resistance ratings, and industry-leading warranty coverage, CertainTeed is one of the most trusted roofing material brands in North America. Here is everything you need to know before choosing it for your home.

What Is CertainTeed and Why Does It Matter for Your Roof?

When a roofing contractor tells you they install a specific brand of shingles — the first question you should ask is whether that brand has a verifiable track record. CertainTeed does. Here is the full picture.

Founded in 1904, Over 120 Years of Roofing History

CertainTeed was founded as the General Roofing Manufacturing Company in 1904 by George M. Brown in East St. Louis, Illinois. At the time, 80% of roofing shingles in the United States were made of wood, which ignited easily. Brown’s goal was to manufacture a safer roofing material using asphalt as an alternative to wood shingles.

The name CertainTeed was derived from the company’s original slogan, “Quality made certain, satisfaction guaranteed.” That slogan eventually became the brand name that has been on roofs across North America for over a century.

In 1917, the company restructured, incorporated, and changed its name to Certain-teed Products Corporation. It began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in 1918.

A Subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, One of the World’s Oldest Building Products Companies

CertainTeed is a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, one of the world’s largest, oldest, and most respected companies, with a parent company history dating back to 1665.

Today, CertainTeed has evolved into North America’s leading brand of exterior and interior building products, with more than 6,300 employees and more than 60 manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and Canada.

This matters for Louisiana and Texas homeowners for one practical reason. A manufacturer backed by a 350-year-old global parent company is not going anywhere. Your warranty has a company behind it that will still exist when you need to use it.

A Track Record of Industry Firsts

CertainTeed’s history is not just longevity. It is a record of genuine innovation in roofing materials:

  • CertainTeed became the world’s largest manufacturer of asphalt shingles during the mid-20th century.
  • In 1958, CertainTeed developed the first fully automatic roofing shingle packaging machine.
  • CertainTeed introduced Grand Manor, the first super-premium roofing shingle on the market and the first to offer a lifetime warranty.
  • CertainTeed has held more than 350 patents on its products over the past 30 years.
  • CertainTeed unveiled Landmark Solaris solar reflective roofing shingles, helping reduce energy costs while increasing curb appeal.

Use this company to get your new roof! Everyone was so very helpful and responsive throughout the entire process, especially Justin and Scott! From start to finish, Scott saw our project through and helped us get insurance to cover our new roof. Scott was very patient with all my questions and concerns, and always found an answer for me if he didn't know it already. Jorge and his crew were amazing as well when it came time to install the new roof. Jorge kept me informed as the day progressed and even went out of his way to fix another issue in my attic that was unrelated to the roof itself, just out of the kindness of his heart! Great company with great employees who treat you like family. You won't regret using them!

Cold Calling everyone in the neighborhood of Magnolia Woods about roofing work. They called my wife's cell (a memphis number) and were asking/looking for me. My wife said it is the wrong number, and they insisted that number was actually my number. Again my wife said NO it is not, and asked how they got her cell number and they again asked for me by name and cited that they know this is my number because they got it off "some list". Desperate company, I would never use. If someone has roofing issues, they will obviously reach out to a roofing company - we do not need to be SPAMMED about it.
Response from the owner 14:59 13 Jun 25
Thanks for your feedback, and I’m sorry for the negative experience you and your wife had. That’s absolutely not the way we want to show up in the community. We train our team to be respectful and professional at all times—especially when reaching out to local homeowners. Based on your note, it sounds like we missed the mark here. We’ll be reviewing this call and tightening up our outreach process immediately. For what it’s worth, we aren’t “spamming”—we’re a local company trying to make people aware of storm damage and insurance benefits they often don’t know about. That said, it should never feel pushy or invasive. If you’d be open to a quick call, I’d like to personally apologize and make it right. Either way, we appreciate your time and take your words seriously.— Chad Elrod, CSO📞 225.400.1009 | 📧 Chad@josephmill.com

Why CertainTeed Is the Right Choice for Louisiana and Texas Homes

Not every roofing material performs equally in every climate. Louisiana and Texas present specific conditions that demand specific performance characteristics. CertainTeed’s product engineering addresses all of them.

Class 4 Impact Resistance, The Highest Rating Available

CertainTeed’s impact-resistant shingle line achieves the highest impact resistance rating, Class 4, during testing performed with steel balls simulating 90-mph hailstones of varying sizes. The protection of CertainTeed impact-resistant shingles is verified by Underwriters Laboratory through the Class 4 UL 2218 Impact Test.

To meet the acceptance criteria of UL 2218, the roof covering material, including the exposed surface, back surface, and underlying layers, must show no evidence of tearing, fracturing, cracking, splitting, rupture, crazing, or opening.

For homeowners in Livingston Parish and Nueces County, where recurring hail events damage roofs every season, Class 4 impact resistance is not a luxury. It is the performance standard your roof needs to hold up over time.

Wind Resistance Up to 130 MPH

CertainTeed Landmark shingles come with a 15-year, 110 mph wind-resistance warranty, with a wind warranty upgrade to 160 mph available when installed with CertainTeed starter strips and hip and ridge accessories.

In Louisiana and Texas, where hurricane and tropical storm winds regularly exceed 100 mph, wind resistance ratings are not a marketing number. They are the difference between a roof that holds and a roof that fails during a storm event.

StreakFighter Algae Resistance, Critical in Louisiana and Texas Humidity

CertainTeed’s StreakFighter technology uses the power of science to repel algae before it can take hold and spread. StreakFighter’s granular blend includes naturally algae-resistant copper, helping your roof maintain its curb appeal and look beautiful for years to come.

Louisiana and Texas humidity creates ideal conditions for algae growth on roofing surfaces. The dark streaking caused by algae is not just an aesthetic problem. It signals granule degradation that accelerates the aging of the shingle surface. StreakFighter addresses this at the material level rather than requiring ongoing treatment after installation.

CertaSeal Adhesive, Wind Uplift Protection That Stays Flexible

CertaSeal is a high-grade adhesive made from a proprietary blend of asphalts and polymers that seals shingles together on the roof to safeguard against wind uplift, shingle blow off, and moisture infiltration. Unlike harder sealants that can dry out and crack over time, CertaSeal is designed to remain pliable and accommodate the slight structural shifts caused by years of temperature and weather changes.

In Louisiana and Texas, where roofs cycle through extreme heat and occasional freezing temperatures, a sealant that stays flexible rather than cracking over time is a meaningful performance advantage.

Energy Efficiency, Relevant in Louisiana and Texas Heat

Some CertainTeed shingles are ENERGY STAR rated, particularly the Landmark Solaris collection. These shingles use advanced reflective technology to reduce the amount of heat transferred into a home by reflecting solar energy away from the roof surface, improving indoor comfort during hot summers and contributing to lower air conditioning costs.

The Solaris technology features a special granule surface blend that can reflect up to 44 percent of solar heat, reducing roof temperatures and heat transfer into living spaces and lessening the workload of air conditioning systems.

In South Louisiana and coastal Texas, where summer temperatures regularly exceed 95 degrees, a roof that reflects heat rather than absorbing it has a direct impact on monthly energy costs.

CertainTeed Warranty Coverage, What It Means for Your Home

Warranty coverage is one of the most important factors in any roofing material decision. CertainTeed’s warranty structure is among the strongest in the industry. Here is what it covers.

Lifetime Limited Transferable Warranty

CertainTeed’s standard manufacturer’s warranty is widely considered one of the best in the industry. Not only do they use high-quality raw materials and world-class manufacturing processes, but their products also meet or exceed quality testing standards set by independent third parties. Their products are warranted against defects with coverage that goes above and beyond what many competitors offer. Other companies only provide coverage if a manufacturing defect affects shingle performance or results in a roof leak. With CertainTeed shingles, a manufacturing defect can be covered whether your roof is leaking or not during the warranty coverage period, including certain aesthetic defects.

SureStart Protection, Full Coverage in the Critical Early Years

Since CertainTeed roofing products are manufactured to the highest quality standards, they include the additional assurance of SureStart protection at no extra cost on all asphalt shingle products. SureStart provides strong non-prorated protection during the vital early years of your new roof.

Transferable to the Next Homeowner

CertainTeed’s lifetime limited warranty transfers to the next homeowner when a home is sold. This is a meaningful benefit for Louisiana and Texas homeowners who may sell their property, as a transferable roofing warranty increases home value and provides buyers with documented protection on a major structural component.

Algae Resistance Warranty

CertainTeed Landmark shingles include a 25-year StreakFighter algae-resistance warranty, protecting against the dark streaking caused by algae that is particularly common in Louisiana and Texas humidity conditions.

CertainTeed Shingle Lines JosephMill Installs

CertainTeed offers a diverse lineup of asphalt shingles tailored to different aesthetics, performance needs, and budgets. Stonewater Roofing Here are the primary lines relevant to Louisiana and Texas residential homeowners.

Landmark Series, The Most Popular CertainTeed Shingle

With over 100 years of trusted manufacturing, all Landmark shingles come with CertainTeed’s industry-leading lifetime-limited warranty. Independently certified with an Underwriters Laboratories Class A fire resistance rating, Landmark shingles ensure top-notch protection.

The fiberglass base enhances strength and longevity. NailTrak technology simplifies installation with clearly defined nailing zones for accuracy, especially on steep slopes. QuadraBond technology secures shingle layers to withstand harsh weather while maintaining aesthetic appeal.

The Landmark series is the right choice for most Denham Springs and Corpus Christi homeowners looking for a proven, cost-effective asphalt shingle with strong wind and impact performance.

Landmark PRO, Enhanced Performance for High-Humidity and Coastal Markets

Landmark PRO is thicker and more durable than standard Landmark, with Max Def Colors offering vibrant dimensional aesthetics and StainGuard Plus for long-lasting algae resistance. It is best suited for homes in high-humidity or coastal regions.

Landmark PRO is particularly well suited to Corpus Christi homeowners dealing with coastal humidity and salt air exposure, as well as Louisiana homeowners in areas with persistent moisture conditions.

NorthGate and Impact-Resistant Lines, For Maximum Storm Protection

Many CertainTeed shingles, such as those in the NorthGate and Landmark Pro lines, include Class 4 impact resistance, the highest rating in the asphalt shingle category. This durability makes them a smart choice for Texas homeowners dealing with unpredictable weather and frequent storm activity.

For Louisiana and Texas homeowners whose properties are in high-wind zones or who want to maximize insurance premium savings, the impact-resistant lines are the appropriate specification.

Luxury Lines, Grand Manor, Carriage House, Belmont

CertainTeed’s Grand Manor, Carriage House, and Belmont collections mimic the look of slate or cedar shake, blending old-world elegance with modern protection.

These lines are appropriate for homes where aesthetics are a primary consideration alongside performance, including custom builds, historic properties, and high-value residential projects throughout Louisiana and Texas.

How CertainTeed Impact-Rated Shingles Can Lower Your Insurance Premium

This is one of the most practical financial benefits of choosing CertainTeed impact-resistant shingles, and one that most homeowners do not know about until it is too late.

In Louisiana and Texas, many homeowners insurance carriers offer premium discounts for homes with Class 3 or Class 4 impact-resistant roofing materials. The logic from the insurer’s perspective is straightforward. A roof with Class 4 impact resistance sustains less damage during hail or wind events and generates fewer claims.

The discount varies by carrier and policy, but in storm-active markets like South Louisiana and the Texas Gulf Coast, the savings over the life of the roof can be significant, potentially offsetting a meaningful portion of the difference in material cost between standard and impact-rated shingles.

We discuss this specifically during every material selection conversation with JosephMill customers. If your carrier offers this discount and you are replacing your roof, choosing an impact-rated CertainTeed shingle line is worth the conversation.

Why JosephMill Chose CertainTeed as One of Our Two Roofing Material Brands

We install CertainTeed because it meets the performance standard Louisiana and Texas homes require, not because of a marketing arrangement or distributor relationship. Here is the specific reasoning behind our choice.

Over 120 years of verified manufacturing history. A brand that has been producing roofing materials since 1904 has a track record that newer manufacturers cannot match. That history is verifiable, not a marketing claim.

Class 4 impact resistance verified by independent testing. CertainTeed’s impact resistance ratings are verified by Underwriters Laboratory, an independent third party, not a self-reported number.

Wind resistance ratings relevant to Louisiana and Texas. Wind resistance up to 130 mph with proper installation addresses the storm conditions our customers actually face every season.

Algae resistance built into the material. StreakFighter technology addresses one of the most common roofing problems in Louisiana and Texas humidity conditions at the manufacturing level rather than as an afterthought.

Warranty coverage that is genuinely comprehensive. The lifetime limited transferable warranty with SureStart protection covers both performance and aesthetic defects, a standard most competitors do not match.

A parent company that will still exist when you need the warranty. Saint-Gobain has been operating since 1665. CertainTeed’s warranty has institutional backing that smaller manufacturers cannot provide.
